On February 11, 2022, the Nova Scotia government issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for 1,100 GWh of new renewable energy supply through a Rate Base Procurement process. Maxway Capital infrastructure is proposing to develop an expansion to our existing Amherst wind farm in Cumberland county, Nova Scotia, which features 15 turbines with 32 MW of electricity generation capacity. This is enough emissions free energy to power more than 8,500 Nova Scotia homes every year.
The proposed Amherst 2 Wind Farm would have a generation Capacity of up to 60 MW, comprising no more than 12 turbines, and connect to the Nova Scotia Power grid at the same location as the existing facility. Please see Related Documents below for a map of the proposed expansion area.
The expansion project will build on the success of the Amherst Wind Farm, which has been in operation since 2012. During construction, the project employed some 150 local labourers and tradespeople, and supported local economic activity. Since beginning operations 10 years ago, the project has paid almost $2 million in local taxes to Cumberland County.
Maxway Capital is submitting a into the Rate Base Procurement in May 2022, and selected projects are expected to be announced in August 2022, after which Maxway Capital will inform local stakeholders of any next steps related to the proposed expansion.
